I get a daily devotional from a former Pastor. This is today’s entry. I thought it was very good, as most of us have lost a beloved pet, and wondered the same thing:

TODAY IN HISTORY:  ON NOVEMBER 6, 2011, MY LITTLE PAL, MY BEST BUDDY, MY DOG RILEY DIED.

TODAY IN THE BIBLE:

Jhn 14:2   In my Father’s house are many mansions: if [it were] not [so], I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Jhn 14:3   And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, [there] ye may be also

TODAY’S COMMENTS:

“DO DOGS GO TO HEAVEN WHEN THEY DIE”

By Pastor Ronny Roach

I named my dog “Riley” after the TV show “The Life Of Riley”.  If you remember this show you are over 60 years of age.” Riley” played by William Bendix always seem to get into some kind of predicament. However, he was a lovable character, and by the end of the show everything worked out okay.

My little Riley had his own funny situations.  Like the time a lady invited Riley and me into her home and he immediately marked his turf, if you know what I mean.  Or how about the cold winter days in Montana when he and I and Jackie would do laps inside the church to warm up;  going up and down stairs, and around the interior of the sanctuary and the basement. Riley, on occasion, would make a little deposit that was usually discovered on Sunday morning by a Sunday School teacher!

Is there a place for dogs in heaven?  I woke up early this morning thinking about my little buddy, and about all the mornings he sat on my lap while I read the Bible. And the times he crawled under the quilt with me on cold mornings, just to be close to me when I prayed.

If I were to look at the “TEN COMMANDMENTS,”  and compare the life of my little Riley I would say that he was better than most christians.

1.  He had no other God than the God of the Bible that was read to him almost daily, (KJV) in fact he was created by God for me. I thought at times I could hear him growl when someone would mention Mohammed.  Of all that God created only humans argue his existence, animals know their creator and obey HIM.

2.  Riley, not only did not make any graven images, he would often hike his leg on those made by others.

3.  He never took God’s name in vain and would bite anyone that did.

4.  He never, ever worked on Sunday.  And until we moved to Georgia, he would regularly attend church.

5.  He honored me daily at the door when I came home, and he would get out of my chair when I wanted to sit down.  He never bit me, or barked at me.

6.  He never killed anything.

7.  I know for absolute fact, that he never committed adultery. (He was neutered at a very young age)

8.  He would on occasion steal a cookie from one the grand children; but it was only to make them laugh.

9.  He never told a lie,  If he did not like you, he would tell you to your face.

10.  Now I will admit he was a little covetous,  He liked mom’s cookies, and he was known to eat a half sandwich left unattended.  However he would pay you back in love and appreciation!

If ever a dog deserved a place in heaven, Riley does.   Riley brought so much Joy to my life,  there will always be a place in my heart for him.  I miss him sitting on my lap this very morning….

If this sounds like and old fool, you are right I will turn 62 next month, however when you see Jesus riding out of heaven on a big white horse look behind him you just may see RILEY.

*note from Linda: If there are horses in heaven, why wouldn’t there be dogs, or cats? After all, how could it be heaven without our pets?
