Who is standing behind you?

Who is standing behind you?

It is said that Caesar Claudius was given the advice, “Trust no one”.  Pretty good advice for a Roman ruler, as many of them were killed by those closest to them. Claudius was thought to be poisened by his wife–Nero’s mother.  Julius Caesar was killed by his best friend, Brutus. Even Jesus Christ was betrayed by one of his close friends, Judas.
But is this good advice for everyone? Is it foolish to trust other people? Or do you believe in “trust but verify”? Is it possible to live a happy life, if we never trust those around us? Should we trust our leaders? Our spouses? Our children? How about the addict in our lives?
Is trust earned, or lost? Are you trustworthy? Should others trust you?
What exactly IS trust?
